Carbon tax: We will lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to continue to aggressively oppose the federal carbon tax and to work with the federal government to find better ways to reduce emissions that won’t negatively affect small businesses & the economy. Red Tape – We will lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to continue to consult annually with businesses & stakeholders to identify red tape headaches in different sectors. Internal Trade – We will continue to lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to work with other provincial, territorial and federal leaders - through the Council of the Federation - to ensure the success of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement and the reduction of inter-provincial trade barriers. Interprovincial Labour Mobility: Through the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, we will continue to lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to recognize more trade and professional certification from other provinces. For example – so dental hygienists and elevator technicians can work in different province without having to get re-certified. Training opportunities – We will lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to encourage more soft skills and workplace literacy in high school curriculum to better prepare youth for the workplace, as well as work with local small businesses to identify what skills are relevant. Will also lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to better emphasize the importance and value of a career in the skills trades so that a greater number of students consider it as a viable career option. Provincial Fuel Tax: We will lobby the provincial government to temporarily suspend collection of the provincial fuel tax to provide cost relief for SK small businesses. Finance & Budget Program or Policy, Regulation
Workers’ Compensation Board – Addressing rules & regulations for Directors, governance and appeals, and urging government to legislate a policy for refunding of surplus funds to employers. Small Business, Workplace Safety Program or Policy, Regulation
Agriculture - we will lobby the provincial government to enact policies provincially that are beneficial to producers, and urge them to oppose federal policies that are harmful to the sector (for example, tying business risk management programs to environmental initiatives). We will share our members' views regarding the Next Agricultural Policy Framework for the government's consideration at federal-provincial-territorial tables. Rising energy costs - we will lobby the provincial government to provide cost relief (for example, tax credits) to small businesses impacted by rapidly rising energy costs, including rate increases enacted by SaskPower and SaskEnergy.
