Red Tape – We will lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to continue to consult annually with businesses & stakeholders to identify red tape headaches in different sectors. We will lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to continue address the red tape headaches that business owners submit to the government’s ‘Help Cut Red Tape’ web page.

Next Provincial Growth plan – We met with the provincial government to discuss our small business priorities for the next provincial Growth Plan.

Federal Tax changes – Met with the provincial government to discuss the negative impact the federal tax changes will have on small businesses and urged the province to ensure Saskatchewan returns to its pre-2018 rules for taxing passive investment income.

Internal Trade – We will continue to lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to work with other provincial, territorial and federal leaders - through the Council of the Federation - to ensure the success of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement and the reduction of inter-provincial trade barriers.

Interprovincial Labour Mobility: Through the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, we will continue to lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to recognize more trade and professional certification from other provinces. For example – so dental hygienists and elevator technicians can work in different province without having to get re-certified.

Training opportunities – We will lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to encourage more soft skills and workplace literacy in high school curriculum to better prepare youth for the workplace, as well as work with local small businesses to identify what skills are relevant. Will also lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to better emphasize the importance and value of a career in the skills trades so that a greater number of students consider it as a viable career option.

Canada Training Benefit (CTB)– We met the provincial government and urged them to say “no” to any provincial changes to employment and labour standards legislation to allow for leaves and job protection related to the new CTB until it is re-targeted to allow for employees and employers to jointly agree on training plans.

Minimum Wage – We will lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to continue to oppose a $15 minimum wage and focus on better tools to help low-income earners such as increasing the Basic Personal Exemption (BPE), introducing tax credits and improving training to help upgrade their skills
